在Windows 7的搜索中，微軟加入了搜索過濾器的新特性以使得用戶能夠更快地找到想要的東西。該過濾器可以將文件按類型、大小、名稱以及更多方式來分類，甚至你也可以根據你想找的文件來自定義。

過濾器

只要用戶知道某個文件的任意一點信息，過濾器的引入可以大大縮短用戶在大量結果中搜尋的時間。根據文件夾里的內容，每個文件夾都會有不同的過濾列表以為用戶提供更佳的搜索結果。

搜索位置

為減少搜索的文件數目和搜索結果，用戶可以選擇需要搜索的位置以獲得質量更高的結果。同時，如果用戶處于HomeGroup中并想在其中搜索時，可以勾選網絡搜索。

保存結果

另一項是實用功能在于其搜索結果快速保存和再現功能。用戶可以保存某一搜索的過濾列表、搜索位置和搜索結果，并可以在將來某個時候還原此搜索。

預覽面板

在瀏覽搜索結果時，用戶還可以在右邊的預覽窗口讀取文檔的部分內容以節約時間打開和讀取文檔。
